Champagne BC Olivier
Champagne BC Olivier, now helmed by Lyse Olivier and her partner, Christophe Lee (of Hong Kong Chinese descent), are the second generation of a small family owned Champagne grower-producer (récoltant-manipulant in French) in the farming village of Trélou-sur-Marne, located on the right bank of the Marne River, approximately 45min drive away from the centre of Reims. Lyse's father, Bruno Olivier, came from a long line of winegrowers in Vallée de la Marne and had worked in his family vineyards from a very young age before setting up his own independent winery in 1983, making Bruno the first in his entire family to bottle his very own champagnes. Lyse and Christophe are now continuing that legacy, and ever since they took over the domaine, both of them have been working tirelessly to introduce sustainable viticulture practices, segregate all the various parcels they own and vinify them individually to preserve the unique terroir characters across their rather fragmented 3.5ha vineyards planted with Meunier, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
Meunier grows tremendously well here in this part of the world and it constitutes almost 75% of all the vines spread across the main village and its two neighbouring hamlets, of which part of them are amphitheater-shaped. Large swathes of natural forests can also be found along most parts of its northern commune, forming some micro-climate conditions that are unique to the area, some of which are now owned by Lyse and Christophe.
