Domaine Maume-Siblas

Domaine Maume-Siblas

For all the true connoisseurs and wine lovers of Burgundy, the name Maume should ring a bell as it has long been the profound, unapologetic soul of Gevrey-Chambertin.For decades, this family-owned domaine crafted wines of legendary structure and classicism - traditional, terroir-driven wines that demanded patience before one can truly see their aristocractic colours.

Unfortunately with fame came complex family affairs and struggles that resulted in the breaking up of the original Domaine Maume, which eventually saw some parts of this old estate sold to Marchand-Tawse, backed by a wealthy Canadian entrepreneur.Fifteen years had since passed and that chapter is now firnly closed.

A new, triumphant one begins as Bertrand's ex-wife, Patricia Siblas and their son, Thomas Maume reclaimed their viticultural birthright, regrouped all of their historic vineyards that were leased out until Thomas came of age, re-emerged like a phoenix that rises from the ashes as Domaine Maume-Siblas.

Under their stewardship, the Maume's name once again resurfaced on the radar of any respectable Burgundy hunter. The wines made by the mother-son team have the same vivid concentration, complexity, and taut structural tension but the extreme rusticity of old (when Bertrand and his father Bernard were helming the original estate) has faded into oblivion. Patricia and Thomas's softer touch in their winemaking places far more emphasis on purity, finesse and elegance without sacrificing the transparency and typicity of the Gevrey-Chambertin terroir.
